Latex-Based Adhesive for Tufted Rugs
This latex-based adhesive is perfect for securing the backing of hand-tufted rugs. After application, it provides a strong yet flexible hold, helping the yarn stay firmly in place.
Key Features:
- Strong adhesion – reliably holds the yarn in place on the fabric
- Flexible yet durable – doesn’t crack, moves with the rug
- Thinner consistency – easy to spread, especially with a paint roller
- Rubbery finish – slightly rubbery to the touch after drying, but not sticky
- Economical – a little goes a long way for good coverage
Important Notes:
- Contains 0.7% ammonia, which may cause a mild sharp odor during use – always work in a well-ventilated area
- Flammable – keep away from heat or open flame
- Use gloves for safe handling
- Not washable after drying – clean tools immediately after use
Shelf Life After Opening:
3–6 months if:
- Stored in a cool (5–20°C), dry place
- Tightly sealed after each use
- Kept clean from water, dust, or other contaminants
When Not to Use It:
- If the adhesive becomes thick, stringy, or rubbery, it has expired
- If it separates into layers, the quality has deteriorated
- Do not freeze – store in a frost-free location
How to Use
Application:
If working on a flat surface, lay a polypropylene backing mesh over the rug. If applying vertically, securely attach the mesh to the primary fabric.
Apply the latex evenly across the back of the rug using a brush or paint roller. Use firm but not excessive pressure to avoid deep penetration into the yarn.
Drying Time:
Let it dry for approximately 12–24 hours before moving or trimming.
